The under 16s boys Newcastle Hunter representative team enjoyed an undefeated season led by captain Singleton’s Max Hillier and the youth girls in their first representative campaign had a total of four Singleton players, the most of any club.
However most exciting for the club was the opportunity for two of the Singleton players U16s Max Hillier and U14s Remy Thomas who were scouted by Sydney Swans selectors at the representative games and offered trials at the Swan’s academy.
Other representative players for the boys were Lachlan Forte and Jackson Kolatchew both playing in the under 16s side.
The Newcastle Hunter teams played nine games from June to July, a longer season than previous years’ due to a changed format.
Last year the local representative teams would travel to Sydney to play however the competition was changed this year with the teams playing carnival like tournaments against representative sides from the North, Mid, Central and South Coasts of New South Wales.
“There are more teams and more games so it’s more beneficial to the development of junior players in the region,” junior vice president Jason Kolatchew said.
The youth girls’ players were Ebony Millar playing forward, Ivy Michell on the wing, Jessyka Old in the backs with Breanna Fogarty who apart from Breanna were introduced to the game of AFL this season in the now girls only division.
The Newcastle Hunter girls’ team was mostly made up of under 15s and were well and truly up against it playing older more experienced players however their time with their teammates and coach saw their skills improve tremendously.
“It was great taking on these strong teams and really testing ourselves,” said Ebony Millar.
