This required him to start training in December, and this month Ryan will take part in the third season of the JGC.
His team’s first game is on February, 14 and they will take on Harbour North but only the top three go through to the finals in March.
The scheduling of the competition allows players to compete in a National competition involving 24 teams in each age group, while at the same time being able to participate in their local club and school competitions.
And, now JGC teams have a direct link to the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship (NRC) teams, it is seen as “a clear stepping stone on the path to the NSW Waratahs and potentially the Wallabies.”
This latest selection comes on top of already being identified as an emerging talent - in 2015 Ryan was chosen in the inaugural Waratahs Trac Tahs Elite Performance Squad.
The program aims to track and upskill the player’s development until the age of 18, with experiences such as advanced coaching, Waratahs Match day involvement and learning the Waratah Way of training.
Ryan has also played in various representative sides, including the Wildfires and the Under 12 NSW PSSA rugby union side and won a premiership with his club team.
His club coach, Anthony Partridge says the fact he is only one of three fourteen- year -old players selected in the team is a real credit to the youngster.
Although he appears to be a man of few words, Ryan says he wants to go as far as he can in the game.
His Mum, Teressa Wilson says the past two years have been very busy but she would not have it any other way.
“It’s enjoyable watching them play, and achieve,” she explains.
