The Broke Bulga Landcare Group in conjunction with Singleton Council, Rural Fire Service (RFS), NSW Department of Land Services and Koori Country Fire Sticks will undertake the burn in the southern area of the park from the toilet block towards Milbrodale Road.
The park will be closed to residents and campers and only those people involved in the burn will be permitted onsite. Alternative camping will be available at the recreation grounds at Bulga, Warkworth and Jerrys Plains.
Council’s Manager Infrastructure Strategy, Planning and Programming Peter McMurray said the cultural cool fire burn was a traditional Aboriginal method of controlled fire to eradicate exotic weeds and encourage new growth of native species.
“Council is committed to the removal of noxious weeds in the Singleton LGA and the cultural burn is a means by which Council can support different ways of addressing the issue, as well as regenerating native plants,” he said.
“The burn will be conducted under tight controls and we ask for the cooperation of residents and visitors to avoid the park between Friday 26 May 2017 and Monday 29 May 2017.”
“Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of smoke from the fire, however people who are affected by smoke are advised to stay indoors with the doors and windows closed.”
