In the Hunter Haval Black Diamond Cup, the Roosters started their campaign with a hard-earned victory over Warners Bay, 7.9.51 to 5.10.40.
It was a tight affair all day, with both clubs failing to make the most of their opportunities.
Singleton led by eight points at the final change and had to withstand a determined Bulldogs outfit.
However, with the support of a strong home crowd, the Roosters were able to hang on and record a memorable victory in their return to the Black Diamond Cup competition.
Sam Brasington, in a triumphant return to Rose Point Park, was the best player on the ground.
He was well-supported by Scott Moore, Cam White and Brandon Quinn.
Jesse Vinson was dangerous up forward being the games only multiple goalkicker finishing with two majors.
Singleton 0.2, 4.5, 6.6, 7.9 (51)
Warners Bay 1.6, 3.6, 4.10, 5.10 (40)
Goals: Jessie Vinson 2, Jackson Kolatchew 1, Jacob Welsh 1, Nic Macpherson 1, Cameron White 1, Ethan Kolatchew 1
Best: Sam Brasington, Scott Moore, Cameron White, Brandon Quinn, Mitchell Gaffney, Nic Macpherson
In the women’s fixture, Singleton somehow held off fast-finishing Warners Bay, despite the Roosterettes remaining scoreless in the final quarter.
The hosts prevailed 4.4.28 to 3.6.24.
The home side started well and looked to have the game under control when they led by 17 points at the last term and having restricted Warners bay to just one goal for the first three quarters.
This was not to be as Warners Bay kicked the first two majors of the final quarter to reduce the margin to four points with 10 minutes to play.
Both teams threw everything into the dying minutes, but no further score was possible and the Roosterettes had hung on to record a four-point win.
Lua Roser, Jade Moody, Tahlia Thompson and Tori Cowburn were the best for Singleton with Emily Mitchell the only multiple goalkicker in the match, securing two priceless majors in the low-scoring affair.
Singleton 2.0, 2.4, 4.4, 4.4 (28)
Warners Bay 0.0, 0.1, 1.5, 3.6 (24)
Goals: Emily Mitchell 2, Tori Cowburn 1, Kaylah Jeffriess-Tapper 1
Best: Lua Roser, Jade Moody, Tahlia Thompson, Tori Cowburn, Lynan Scott, Renee Dietz
In the Plate fixture, Singleton produced a six-goal to two second half to account for Warners Bay 11.9.75 to 7.9.51.
Next Saturday, Singleton makes the trip to the Central Coast in all grades, with the Black Diamond Cup side away to Gosford and the women’s and Plate teams facing The Entrance Bateau Bay.
