A bumper crowd was again in attendance as the Bulls looked to build on an outstanding start to the year.
Bullseyes favourite, the Thirsty Thirds, continued their brilliant start to the season, once again coming out victors against the Hawks, continuing an unprecedented streak of wins to kick off 2018.
It was a massive result for the early risers against a team that came in second last year, with the Bulls emerging 20-10 winners.
In Second Grade, the Bulls didn’t go down without a fight, consistently pegging back the Hawks lead and looking to mount a late fightback before the Hawks were able to kick away late, taking the points 38-22.
A strong performance from Brady Hay in the Hey Bayles Contracting number 6 jersey helped him claim the rucking mug for players player in second grade as well as earning ‘Player of the Day’ honours.
In First Grade, the Bulls put together perhaps the best half of Rugby seen at God’s Acre in some years, with some enterprising attack and stoic defence seeing them go into the half leading 15-5.
This included a last ditch goal line stand to end the half, sending the crowd into raptures at the halftime break knowing that such defence could set the tone for a famous victory.
It wasn’t to be though, as the Bulls failed to maintain the rage after halftime and let in two quickfire tries to allow the Hawks to gain the ascendancy.
From there the Hawks kicked away and despite pulling the deficit back to six at one stage, the home side was unable to overcome their classy opponents.
Once again though Bullseye sees great improvement as this was a massive turnaround from previous years results against the NHRU powerhouse with many Hawks players commenting on the improvement and tenacity our current crop are producing.
Looking forward, the Bulls take on Merewether this weekend in another clash at home.
The Greens have been in red hot form to gain plenty of support as premiership favourites so this will be a great market of the Bulls credentials.
Hope to see you all there this Saturday.
Go the Bulls!
