Singleton jockey Aaron Bullock guides Muswellbrook-trained Sikandarabad to impressive two-length victory in the $150,000 Carlton Draught Coffs Harbour Cup

Bullock wins Coffs Harbour Cup

IT was a red-letter day for Singleton jockey Aaron Bullock on the North Coast on Thursday.

After the talented hoop's incredible feats in the saddle last season were recognised at the Scone Race Club's TAB meeting earlier this week, he backed up - on August 6 - with a brilliant winning double.

Bullock saluted the judges on board Ronan's Rock, for trainer Cody Morgan, in the Bellbowrie Motors Country Magic Merv Mercer Showcase Mile - Class 2 Handicap over 1600m.

The bay gelding, by Fastnet Rock from Ronan's Bay, claimed the honours by almost two lengths from Natural Predator.

But, the best was yet to come.

He then guided Sikandarabad to an impressive victory in the $150,000 Carlton Draught Coffs Harbour Cup, also 1600m.

Bullock led the Sam Kavanagh-trained eight-year-old galloper, from Muswellbrook, to a two-length triumph over the fast-finishing The Kingdom and $2.70 favourite Academy.

"I think Sikandarabad's class prevailed in the end," he said afterwards.

"Coming to the corner, I actually had to ask him to wait.

"It's not often you can do that on horses like this.

"However, battling up the straight, he found something extra."

On Tuesday, August 4, the Scone Race Club acknowledged Bullock's accomplishment of taking out the organisation's jockeys' premiership for 2019-20.

He rode 14 winners and 15 placegetters from 60 starts - a terrific strike rate of just less than 50 per cent.

"It was a pretty amazing achievement, considering Aaron only rode for half of the year," SRC chief executive officer Heath Courtney said.
