High jumper Rinkin and speedster Bennett are keen to compete at the next level after performing well for Upper Hunter at the Regional Athletics Carnival on August 29 at Glendale.
Year six student Rinkin came first in her age group, smashing her personal best time.
“My best was 1.3 metres but at regionals I cleared 1.4 at my first attempt,” she said.
Not bad for someone who confesses to only starting Little Athletics this season and not doing “any extra training”.
Although excited about the prospect of being a part of the Hunter team, Rinkin said she was a “little nervous too”.
Bennett secured second in her 100-metre final at Glendale and, unlike Rinkin, is not nervous about competing in Sydney.
“I raced there last year, this will be the second time for me,” she said.
“It is a massive stadium and I am looking forward to running there again.”
The all-rounder loves all sports and narrowly lost her recent netball grand final.
Both girls will be accompanied by their parents when they head to Sydney next month.
