An initiative of the Hunter LLS board, the meeting was heralded as the beginning of a new era in building stronger partnerships for the region.
“It was a very constructive conversation, that showed there is a lot of desire to work together, and a recognition that developing partnerships is the way forward,” said LLS Chair Lindy Hyam.
“As the industry decides its future direction, LLS is there to help facilitate, improve and assist industry. ”
Ms Hyam said credit is due to the industry groups already working closely with LLS staff on integrated projects delivering best practice outcomes for local producers.
The Chair also acknowledged Hunter Local Land Services staff, that have been committed to building strong partnerships to date.
“The round table recognised the adoption of best practices for pasture management is crucial to the improved productivity and profitability of the local industry,” said Ms Hyam.
“There are also opportunities to explore new partnerships with research and development providers to drive innovation in agriculture on the Mid North Coast. Plus there are exciting opportunities with industry to help improve the rate of adoption of new management practices across the region.”
Hunter LLS Agriculture Production and Protection sub-committee is now working on a set of recommendations for the Board to consider in coming months.
“We want to flesh out an agreed program to help build profitability and productivity that integrates our responsibility for enhanced landscape management,” Ms Hyam said.
“The encouraging fact is that we are recognising the value of long term experience in the industry while also integrating innovation and change.”
