This is an open invitation to our community to participate on Sunday, March 1st commencing at 8am and finishing at 11am. It is coordinated by the Singleton Tidy Town Committee along with Singleton Council.
Committee chairperson Lyn MacBain acknowledged the support the event has received in the past and hopes 2020 will be the same.
"We encourage people to sign on at Baileys Union Park and collect rubbish bags before they head out to their area," Mrs MacBain said.
"People can nominate specific areas to collect rubbish or Tidy Towns can direct them to a location on the day."
Site Supervisor Angela Fuller and Tidy Towns volunteers will assist with registration and our much appreciated, Singleton Lions will be on hand to for breakfast from 8am to 10am.
Support has also been received from AGL, who are one of the major sponsors the 30th Anniversary for Clean Up Australia Day year.
The annual event was the result of an initiative began as the inspiration of one man, Ian Kiernan. An avid sailor, Ian was shocked and disgusted by the pollution and rubbish that he continually encountered in the oceans of the world. Taking matters into his own hands, Ian organised a community event with the support of a committee of friends. And so it was that Clean Up Australia Day was born in 1990.
The rubbish bags can then be returned to a central pick up area at the completion of the clean-up and they will be taken to the waste facility by Singleton Council.
If you know of an area that requires attention you can contact us and we will endeavour to have it cleaned on the day or note it for further attention in the future.
It would be appreciated if you could bring your own gloves and strong bags if you have them and wear solid shoes, hat and sunscreen.
