The upgrade, which took many years to plan, implement and complete, was funded by a $5.7 million grant under the Hunter Infrastructure Investment Fund and contributions from the Ravensworth Mine Voluntary Planning Agreement.
The completed upgrade includes a new spin studio, crèche, new amenities and offices and of course, the state of the art hydrotherapy pool.
In her first official duty as Mayor, Sue Moore said the hydrotherapy pool is a magnificent opportunity for the people of Singleton and will ensure that the needs of all community members will be met without extensive travel.
YMCA NSW Commercial and Operations Manager Richard Price said the Singleton Gym and Swim was now one of the best regional facility in NSW with its state of the art amenities and services.
“The hydrotherapy pool will allow for the YMCA to enhance the learn to swim program and focus on younger children with the warmer temperatures of the hydro pool,” Mr Price said.
“It will also allow the Singleton centre to focus on rehabilitation and aid quicker recovers for those who need it.”
“The finished facility is an exceptional outcome for the township of Singleton and really is value for money.”
YMCA NSW CEO Leisa Hart said the organisation is about connecting people to their communities to live happier, healthier lives.
“We are excited to be able to offer an additional 500 places in our learn to swim classes each week due to the increased space,” she said.
“We thank Singleton Council for the ongoing opportunity to work together and acknowledge the vision of the State Government and Council in upgrading this wonderful facility.”
Both Mayor Moore and Michael Johnsen MP said the finished upgrade was a credit to the Singleton Council, YMCA, contractors and the Singleton community who all had the vision and passion to see the project through.
