Speaking to the Singleton Argus, as a NSW Fire & Rescue investigator walked through the home to determine the cause of the blaze, the woman said she was in one of the two front bedrooms when she heard the noises coming from the kitchen and realised it was engulfed by flames.
“I immediately dashed out a side door and called 000 on my mobile,” she said.
Her call was received at 12.21am by Singleton Fire & Rescue and they responded with two units, supported by another two units from Branxton.
Before they arrived, the resident said a friend tried to extinguish the fire in the kitchen but was unable to do anything to control the blaze.
“He tried but it was way too fierce for him,” she said.
“I lost everything in the fire as I ran out in my nightie; the only thing saved is my mobile and the garage which contained the car.”
Walking through the rubble in borrowed clothes, the resident, who was in the final processes of buying the home, is now living with relatives in Singleton.
She is unsure about what the future holds for her but she did have insurance cover for the house.
The timber home was estimated to be 100 years old and had been unoccupied for some time before its recent sale.
There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire with investigators saying it started accidentally.
It is believed it was due to electric wiring in a disused hot water system.
