“The character resembles me; she is fiery and stands up for what she believes in but also has a compassionate side which the audience sees when Jasmine meets Aladdin,” she explains.

“But I have had to learn a lot of lines.”

Although it is a welcome challenge for the talented young performer who is no stranger to the stage.

From Cinderella to a young Alice, she has taken on quite a few leading roles however being able to work with the team at Hunter Drama has been an “amazing” opportunity.

Praising the company’s level of professionalism, Lucie says she has blossomed under the guidance of director James Tolhurst and musical coach Alison Hodge.

Her co-star Lachlan Lockhardt agrees and is relishing the chance to star in such a high calibre production so close to home.

The 18-year-old comes from Muswellbrook but has spent many years travelling all over the region to pursue his love of the stage and this included attending the Hunter School of Performing Arts in Newcastle.

However, taking on the comedic and pivotal role of the Genie is quite a departure for the accomplished performer.

“I usually play serious role so this has really pushed me out of my comfort zone,” he explains.

“It is also a physically demanding role but I have enjoyed making the character my own.”

 Hunter Drama and the 2018 Road Trip:

With our brand new production of Disney’s Aladdin JR, designed especially for young performers, the Hunter Drama production team of directors, choreographer and musical directors will visit Newcastle, Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton. Their 2018 road trip (which is called “Hunter Drama On Tour”) will give young singers, actors and dancers, between the ages of 9 and 18 years, the opportunity to perform on stage as part of the Disney’s Aladdin JR. cast in their 2018 season.

Students from across the Hunter and Upper Hunter now have the opportunity to audition and perform as a cast member of the hugely popular Academy Award Winning musical, Disney’s Aladdin JR. This is a special 60 minute abridged version of the full length Broadway musical which has been reworked to suit young performers.
