Council resolved to wind up the Broke Bulga Milbrodale Community Committee at Monday night’s meeting as the remaining funds from the Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) have now been allocated to various projects.

With Councillor and committee chair Tony McNamara saying “it was not an easy to committee to run” and that “the outcome was pleasing”.
He also congratulated general-manger Jason Linnane on his concerted efforts.
After three years of painstaking and at times controversial negotiations the sunset committee has achieved its purpose with approximately $655 000 being shared between the villages to compensate for the impacts of Glencore’s expanded operation.
At the committee’s final meeting on Thursday, March 1 it was decided that the remaining $415 182.17 will be spent on the following projects (Broke sub-total $200 000; Bulga sub-total ($215 183):
- Broke Park improvements – including skate park, BMX, shade, seating $170 000;
- Broke Town entry tree planting $30 000;
- Bulga Recreation Clubhouse maintenance $20 000;
- Bulga Recreation playground surrounds $25 000;
- Bulga Recreation area playground shade and soft-fall $50 000;
- Bulga Recreation ground bollards/fencing $5 000;
- Bulga Cemetery restoration $25 000;
- Bulga Hall playground upgrade $25,000;
- Bulga recreation areas signage and picnic facilities $40 000;
- Contingency $25 182.
Prior this $146 017.83 had already been spent on refurbishing Broke Hall ($109 494.83), St Andrews Church sandstone restoration ($6 573), Bulga Hall events ($10 000), Broke Hall events ($10 000) and Bulga Hall painting ($9 950.00).
Present at that final meeting was Cr McNamara, Mr Linnane, Bulga Coal Environment and Community Manager Ralph Northey, Pauline Rayner, Teegan Hayward, Marie Mitchell, Christina Metlikovic and Mark Ihlein, while Kristy Hedley and Gwen Lambkin sent their apologies.
The committee has met regularly over the last three yeas with minutes reported to Council with the primary intent of making recommendations on how the VPA funds should be allocated.
