Singleton Council has officially given the green light to an $86.9million operational budget in the coming financial year, paving the way for $31.45million in capital works with the adoption of the Singleton 2018/2019 Operational Plan.

The Operational Plan was presented to Council’s ordinary meeting on Monday, detailing what Council plans to achieve in the coming year to progress the community’s long-term objectives as outlined in the Community Strategic Plan. The one-year plan will take effect from 1 July 2018.
Among the actions in the document are development of a future plan for Singleton in the areas of the arts, culture and recreation; condition assessments on all critical road, drainage, building, open space and transportation assets; and commission of a new animal shelter.
The plan also includes more money for water and sewer services in line with the DPI Water Best Practice guidelines.
“The draft Operational Plan sets out Council’s entire works program for 2018/2019, covering everything from maintaining our parks and sports fields through to promoting Singleton to investors and holding high quality events,” Acting General Manager Anthony Egan said.
“It also reflects the significant focus we have put on enhancing the experience for our customers through actions in our Customer Service Strategy, and our ongoing commitment to reviewing the efficiency of our services to make sure we are delivering what our community wants in the best way possible.
“Best of all, the draft Operational Plan is a checklist for our community on what we will deliver in the next financial year.”
The draft Operational Plan was publicly exhibited between April 18 and May 16, 2018. No submissions were received during the exhibition period.
Deputy Mayor of Singleton, Cr Godfrey Adamthwaite, said the 2018/2019 Operational Plan set out another year of progress towards the community’s vision for Singleton under the Community Strategic Plan.
“I’m excited to see what will be achieved for Singleton in the next financial year, and to progressing what people in our community told us they wanted for Singleton in the next 10 years,” he said.
“While the 2018/2019 Operational Plan sets out Council’s budget, fees and charges, and actions to deliver local services and infrastructure, Council is also committed to continuing to advocate to other levels of government on matters such as the Singleton bypass, the Golden Highway and New England Highway overpass, traffic congestion, public transport, policing, education and health.”
