And, these unique races will be combined with the brigade’s annual ‘Get Ready Weekend’ activities.
The first race is scheduled to start at 12pm and the ladies league team will fire up the barbecue at 2pm.
While the hotel will also have their regular lunch menu on offer and has arranged live entertainment.
“It’s not necessarily the fastest pig who wins, says volunteer RFS firefighter, Jacob Caban.
“It’s the first pig to find the milk at the finish line.”
There will be six exciting races on the card during the family fun day and you can either get together with a few mates to purchase a pig in the pre-race calcuttas – or buy some tickets in the “pig raffle”.
Jacob says all the action will be combined with their annual ‘Get Ready Weekend’.
The RFS initiative is an opportunity for families to meet firefighters and get advice on preparing a bushfire survival plan.
NSW RFS Operational Officer Leanne Bell says all residents in the Singleton need to be prepared for the bush fire season.
“It has already been a busy start to the fire season with more than 2000 bush and grass fires across NSW during August,” she says.
“With all of NSW in drought and a forecast of ongoing warm and dry conditions, there is the potential for a long and protracted bush fire season. NSW RFS members have been busy preparing by undertaking hazard reduction burns, maintaining firefighting equipment and undergoing training.”
She says a total of ten events will be held in the local area, including firefighting displays, opportunities to get on board a fire truck, seeing specialist firefighting equipment up close and having your picture taken with a firefighter.
“Volunteer firefighters will be available to talk to you about the simple things you can do to reduce your bush fire risk,” Operational Officer Bell says.
“Preparing for bush fires is easier than people may think. It could be as simple as talking to your family about what you would do if a bush fire was to start near them.”
Get Ready Weekend is officially on September 22 and 23 and full list of local events is available at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/getready.
