This year the organisers have received two nominations from 19-year-old Taylor Giggins, 21-year-old Abbie Samuels and 23-year-old Rebecca Emerton.
The aim of competition is to find a young female Ambassador for rural NSW and the agricultural show movement. It encourages growth and development of young women to become strong, independent and influential representatives of the local community.
Winner of the competition will be announced following the official opening of the show at 2:00pm
Taylor Giggins
Taylor is currently studying a double degree in Sports Management and Sport and Sport Exercise Science at the University of Canberra.
She completed Year 12 in 2017 at Singleton High School achieving the Caltex Best Allrounder Award and in January this year was named Singleton’s Australia Day Young Achiever.
For six months of this year Taylor completed a voluntary internship in Sydney with Burn Bright, a not-for-profit organisation that delivers students leadership, wellbeing programs and camps throughout Australia.
Once she completes her university studies Taylor plans to work for Burn Bright and inspire future leaders of Australia. She hopes to encourage growth in women’s sport especially in rural and regional areas.
“It would be an absolute honour to have the chance to represent our beautiful community and to inspire and encourage younger women of Singleton to reach their dreams, “ she commented on the showgirl competition.
Abbie Samuels
Abbie is a hairdresser having completed her Certificate Three in hairdressing last year and in 2014 completed her Diploma of Beauty Therapy. She currently works for Empire Hair and Beauty.
She attended St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton Christian College and finally Hunter Valley Grammar where she completed Year 10.
Abbie said as she grew-up her ambitions changed and now she has two main aims, which are one day to take-over her parent’s Samuels Transport & Couriers business and second to continue improving her work skills through undertaking more training and courses.
“I entered the showgirl competition for the experience and to push myself outside my comfort zone.” she said.
“My grandparents and family have always been involved with the show and our community. Winning the 2018 competition would make my family proud.”
Rebecca Emerton
Rebecca is currently working as a sales assistant at Hunter Jewelers while studying for a Certificate Four in vet nursing. She already has a Certificate Two in animal care and has a long term plan to obtain a veterinary science degree and operate her own vet clinic.
She likes to be involved in local fundraisers and charity events whenever she can.
“I would like to be the 2018 Singleton Showgirl as it would give me the opportunity to represent my local town and showcase all the wonderful opportunities that it has to offer people,” she said.
