Singleton’s Red Cross Branch to mark the centenary of Armistice Day November 11, 1918 held a Baking for the Battlefield gathering.
Featuring bakes of the era and memorabilia from that time 140 guests filled the hall to capacity.
Guest speaker was the School of Infantry’s Major Timothy Butcher who spoke about his overseas service comparing it to the vastly different challenges encountered by those serving our country during WW1.
It must be remembering that many young men from Singleton left in 1914 and didn’t return until more than four years later, and some of course died where they fought.
