The member for Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen was in Singleton today to announce $2,787,000 for Singleton to construct a new Arts & Cultural Centre through round two of the NSW Government’s Regional Cultural Fund.

The Centre ,which the community has been seeking for a number of years, would form part of the upgrade to Townhead Park.
Mr Johnsen said the Arts & Cultural Centre in Singleton will benefit Singleton Council’s cultural efforts and many local community groups.
“I heartily congratulate Singleton Council on all their hard work in this application, and on Council’s success in receiving this important NSW Government funding.
“This project offers new experiences for both local and overseas visitors, leading to more tourism dollars and jobs for our local Singleton economy and the cultural life of the town.
“Art, screen, culture, music and performance are at the heart and soul of regional NSW and the Nationals in Government are committing to providing even more opportunities for locals to enjoy entertaining and educational experiences.
“Importantly it will also provide our local artists in Singleton and the region with new opportunities to showcase innovative and quality works and allow visitors to experience a diverse range of arts and activities while generating social, economic and tourism benefits across our Upper Hunter community.
Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said the concept for the new 736sqm arts centre was raised by the community.
“The facility will provide a creative space for local artists as well as a venue for arts and cultural exhibitions, workshops and private functions,” she said.
“This was a priority project in the Singleton Community Social Plan and most recently the Community Strategic Plan 2017-2027, and we are pleased Mr Johnsen took up the campaign for funding.
“Council is really excited to work with the State Government to deliver this project to the people of Singleton, and tick off a very big item on our local government area’s wish list.
“It’s also a fantastic start to the realisation of the Townhead Park Master Plan, along with the works about to commence on the playground and amenities upgrade.”
“By improving and supporting local art galleries, libraries and artist-led public art the NSW Government is making towns and cities across regional NSW vibrant places to live, study, work and play,” Mr Johnsen continued.
“It will be a real pleasure to see first-hand how this new project will enrich the lives of artists, cultural workers and communities in our Singleton community,” Mr Johnsen concluded.
