On the morning of Wednesday, June 26, as Singleton residents woke up to the news of the Brittliffe Close house fire (which saw three children tragically killed), Caitlyn Stemmer embarked on a mission.
"When I found out about the news, I was shocked and there was some disbelief," she told the Singleton Argus.
"I just didn't know what to do really, I wanted to help as much as possible straight away."
The local resident shifted into a proactive gear by mid morning when establishing a GoFundMe page for the victims of the tragedy with the goal of raising $50,000.
That target was reached moments ago at 6:09pm with a total of $51,780 tallied in the campaign's first seven hours.
LIVE TALLY:
5.25pm - 981 donors - $44,974
5.31pm - 1007 donors - $46,216
5.37pm - 1021 donors - $47,031
5.44pm - 1036 donors - $47,601
5.49pm - 1050 donors - $47,890
5.56pm - 1070 donors - $49,170
6.04pm - 1091 donors - $49,795
6.09pm - 1124 donors - $51,780
Stemmer admits she had slight anxiety when bypassing the family itself to make the GoFundMe page as she did not want to bother them during this traumatic experience.
However after an hour long chat with her partner, believed to be a family friend of the victims, and her mother in law, the time had come to kick start the campaign.
"I wouldn't expect anything less from the Singleton community, everyone wants to do their part to help out whether it's donating money or clothes whatever helps," she added.
"I really don't want any credit for starting the page, it seemed like the natural thing to do; to help a family in a tragedy."
