Completed just in time for the reopening of playground facilities across the state, following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, it is located behind the Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre (SVIEC) and the ParkView cafe.
Following the removal of the previous playground and bike track Singleton Council adopted in October 2018 the TownHead Park Masterplan with stage one to include a new playground and upgraded amenities building and allocated $400,000 to see work begin.
Some users of the new facility have taken to social media to express their delight at the playground but also raise concerns about the need to fence off the playground and the installation of much needed rubbish bins.
Commenting on those concerns Mark Ihlein, Council's Director Planning and Infrastructure Services said, "Council is extremely pleased with the community's response to the new playground in Townhead Park and have been watching the response on social media."
"Rubbish bins will be installed at the site as soon as possible, however there are no plans at this stage to fence the playground.
"The playground was an important component of the first stage of the Townhead Park Master Plan, and carefully located more than 40m from the road which is considered sufficient not to warrant fencing.
"Stage 2 of the Master Plan, although unfunded at this stage, includes a new bike track adjoining the playground. Fencing the play equipment from the open space area will limit the scope and variety of children's play, and the potential for further improvements to the area."
