Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the Local Sport Grant Program is crucial in supporting the NSW Government's commitment to enhance the quality of life of the people of NSW.
"By improving access and the quality of sport and recreational facilities and programs we can improve the health, social and economic wellbeing of the community," said Mr Lee.
"At a time when the sector is navigating through the impacts of COVID-19, the Local Sport Grant Program provides a significant boost to grassroots sport activities with grants ranging from $500 to $15,000 for successful projects."
Applicants can access funding for a range of projects including sport access initiatives and facility upgrades, with up to $50,000 available for projects in every electorate across NSW.
But, the encouragement isn't just coming from that far above, with Singleton Shire Council also getting on board with the program.
Council's Director of Infrastructure and Planning, Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr, is also urging clubs to make the most of the program while it lasts.
"I whole-heartedly encourage all sports clubs in Singleton to take a look at the guidelines and consider this opportunity if it suits their needs," he said.
"We recognise the importance of local organised sport to the health and wellbeing of our community, as well as for social interaction, that has never been better demonstrated than during COVID-19."
"Most importantly, we know that most local sport is run by volunteers who give their own time - and particularly now in unusual circumstances - to provide opportunities for the community."
Applications are open and close at 5:00pm Wednesday, 7 October 2020. More info at: https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/sectordevelopment/grants/localsport.
