Former Singleton resident Brian Beh has been recognised at the Stroke Foundation's 2021 national Stroke Awards for his tireless dedication to raising awareness of stroke

Brian A. Beh, a retired management and corporate communications consultant has been announced the winner of the Improving Life after Stroke Award in an online celebration.

The 73-year-old son of former Singleton residents, Harry and Joy Beh, has dedicated many hours to sharing his experience with stroke and rehabilitation with clinicians and students, said he was honoured to receive the award.

"I derive a great deal of satisfaction from lecturing and sharing my insights and learnings with health professionals and the stroke community," Brian said.

"Stroke impacts everyone differently and I hope my lived-experience will help fill knowledge gaps.

"It is part of my Giving Back strategy after my own stroke in April 2016, which significantly changed my life. I am so grateful for the clinicians, family and friends who supported me during this period."

Brian, who now lives in Sydney, is known by his peers and clinicians as someone who has been able to overcome significant challenges as a result of his stroke though sheer hard work.

He is now committed to helping fellow survivors make the most of their recovery and live well. Stroke Foundation New South Wales State Manager Rhian Paton-Kelly congratulated Brian on being named as the winner of the Improving Life after Stroke Award.

"Brian is an inspiration and his drive to ease the burden of stroke on other survivors and their families is to be admired," Ms Paton-Kelly said.

"I thank Brian and fellow Stroke Awards nominees and winners for their incredible dedication and contribution to the Stroke Foundation's mission to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery."
