The school and business community came together to help ease the financial costs for Darcy’s parents.
Just to register in the nationals costs $1000 alone, that includes their tracksuit, swimming gear and other official apparel and some of the tour but doesn’t cover the travel and accomodation costs.
The school and Darcy’s family held three events to raise money, the first was a raffle with $1500 worth of prizes donated from local businesses, the second was a “wear your jersey gold coin donation day” and the third was a State Of Origin night at the King Street School Hall.
Publicans around town also helped young Darcy by allowing donation buckets at each of their businesses during the busiest nights of the week.
One off donations have also helped the family make the journey to Victoria.
Darcy swims on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday next week in the AWD division’s 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
