President of the Family History Society Singleton Lyn MacBain and no doubt others would like to see the mistaken identity of this photo corrected. Over many years this photo has been constantly put forward as Benjamin Singleton and local historians have cringed; even recently another local publication claimed this to be Ben.

This photo is of Bourne Russell [1794-1880] also known as Captain Bourne Russell and the Hon. Bourn Russell; he was a man of many occupations and interests. Bourn Russell was a merchant, coalmine owner, tallow producer and grazier. He was Legislative Member and served in both the Upper House and Lower House. Bourn Russell himself is often confused with Captain William Lloyd Russell [c1796-1866] of 'Ravenworth', but that's another story.
This is the photo repeatedly circulated as Benjamin Singleton [1788-1853]. Bourne Russell's son Bourne married Ben's daughter Sarah and it seems someone mistakenly took a comment of 'grandfather' from the back of a photo as Ben. There is NO known photo of Benjamin Singleton.
